Allen, Walsh and Paletta each had hat tricks in the victory.
“We need to be ready to go at the opening whistle,” said Cornell head coach Jenny Graap ’86. “Stony Brook came out firing, and we were back on our heels defensively.”
Though Cornell got off to a shaky start, entering the second half trailing the Lions by one, the Red rallied to outscore Columbia 6-2 in the second period to claim the victory.
A dominant second half that saw seven unanswered goals and 30 minutes of shutout defense lifted the Red to victory.
Cornell’s first win of the season came against Ivy rival Harvard.
“It wasn’t the outcome we wanted. But we had great energy on the field and played with heart the entire game, which made all the difference out there.”
“What was promising was that we showed a lot of fight once we buckled down. That’s good news for us because we can always lean back on [our ability to keep fighting through] when things aren’t going our way.”
The Red is preparing to reassert itself as an Ivy juggernaut.
The Red will welcome eight new players to its roster for the upcoming season.
Her hard work paid off as she was the team’s top athlete in the weight room this season, earning herself a spot on the coveted Wall of Honor.
