  • Collegetown Partiers Arrested

    By ryan August 22, 2000

Ithaca Police made 55 arrests during the party mayhem in Collegetown late Sunday night and early yesterday morning. The defendants were primarily Cornell students, according to a Police Department press release. Ithaca Police Officer Greg Firman said the arrests occurred between 11 p.m. Sunday night and 3 a.m. yesterday morning and that some of the defendants were charged with multiple offenses. Firman could not confirm whether more arrests were made this year than in past years. Ben Szekely ’02, who attended several Collegetown parties over the weekend, thought the situation was less serious than it had been during August parties in the last two years. “The parties this year were definitely less out of control than last year,” he said. “There were less people streaming into the street. Overall, it was a lot less crazy.” The defendants were charged with offenses ranging from underage possession of alcohol and possession of open alcoholic containers in a public place to possession of marijuana and public urination. Three Cornell students were also arrested for unlawfully dealing with a minor following a party in the 100 block of Catherine St. where they allegedly served alcohol to students under the age of 21. All of those arrested were brought into the Ithaca Police station for processing and were eventually released. The students are due to appear in Ithaca City Court in several weeks.Archived article by Katherine Davis

After a whirlwind of summer renovations, Jansen’s Dining Hall opens its doors this fall with sleek new countertops spilling into the dining area. The new space features stations with sizzling stir-fry, hot deli meats and “Salads By Design.” The added serving area is designed to improve selection and to create more personalized menu options. “We tried to make the dining hall more appealing to students by adding station cooking and enhancing the food displays,” explained Colleen Reeba, Jansen’s manager. After having studied surveys of students and current restaurant trends Reeba says, “we have tried to adapt our dining services to what the public thinks of when they think of dining out.” The $200,000 renovation includes new
