Test Spin: Mirwais

Fresh from his role as producer of Madonna’s #1 single, “Music,” Mirwais unleashes his solo debut, aptly titled Production. While it would have been easy enough to follow in the footsteps of his work with The Material Girl, the French producer refuses to rest on his laurels, instead bringing his futuristic dance sound to previously unexplored avenues.

More than just a throbbing dance album, Production is much more subtle, with beats just as likely to be propelled by keyboards as by churning bass. And while a guest appearance by Madonna could have been readily anticipated, who could predict that she’d take a break from trying really hard to convince people she’s a cowboy for her uncharacteristically subtle, predominantly spoken word appearance on “Paradise (Not For Me)?”
