The softball team will travel to Buffalo today to battle Canisius at 3pm. The Red enters today’s game after a weekend of Ivy League play. The Red swept both games against Pennsylvania on Saturday before falling to Princeton in both games of the doubleheader on Sunday. Cornell stands at 16-12 overall, and 2-2 in conference play.

The Golden Griffins (16-7) are coming off a 16-7 win against St. Francis this past weekend.

Record-Setting Power

Senior first baseman Jill Iacono will be a player to watch in today’s contest. Iacono recorded four home runs at four at bats in game one against St. Francis, breaking the NCAA record for home runs in a game. Jamie Gorczynski, Melissa King, and Katie Murphy each had two hits for the Griffins while Tempie Coelho-Freeman went 3-for-3 with a single, a double and a triple.

The Match-up

While the Griffins clearly have depth on their side, the Red is also well equipped with talent all across the board. Cornell will look towards sophomore standout pitching aces Nicole LePera and Sarah Sterman to throw consistently in today’s visit up North.

Sophomore Kate Varde and freshman Lauren May will also aim to sustain their prolific run production of late, batting next to one another in the lineup.
