Okay. Let’s start with what you’re not doing tonight. You’re not going to the men’s hockey game. There is no men’s hockey game tonight. They played last night at Colgate, and they’ll play tomorrow night. All the icers are doing tonight is thinking about how they’ll take their revenge on the Raiders tomorrow. Which leaves you with nothing to do. … Or so you thought. Put that Cornell sweatshirt back on and get back to campus. The athletic facilities are still buzzing, even if the hockey team isn’t in action tonight. Option One: The Friedman Wrestling Center. It’s the new building on the other side of Bartels Hall. If you haven’t seen it, I highly recommend it. This is truly a one-of-a-kind building. Word is, this house is better than the Olympic training facilities. State of the art everything, from the mats themselves to the lighting to the plasma TVs in the film room. MTV should be shooting an episode of Cribs in this place. And the team’s pretty damn good, too. Seventh in the country. They’ve got four wrestlers who are nationally ranked including senior Clint Wattenberg and sophomore Travis Lee. Both are second in the country in their weight classes. They’ll be in the Friedman Center tonight, taking on Penn, which is also ranked (No. 23). The action starts at 7 p.m., but if you want to be there to see it, my advice is to reserve tickets or get there early. Last Sunday’s meet against Ohio State sold out. Or maybe you’re not into wrestling. Perhaps a more mainstream sport would be more entertaining for you. If that’s the case, I present
Sqaush Teams to Battle Navy

The Cornell men’s and women’s squash teams take the road south this weekend to do battle with Navy, George Washington, and Franklin & Marshall in the last matches of the regular season. “These are going to be some good matches for us,” said senior women’s captain Rachel Perschetz. “I expect us to be very successful this weekend.” Long Haul The long day of matches kicks off tomorrow morning, as the women square off against Navy at Annapolis. The men take the courts at midday. “We won the matches last year fairly handily,” said sophomore Mike Delany. “Of course, they’re a strong team, but if we play at our level we should be just fine.” Shaking off the Rust In the afternoon, the men and women will part ways; the women remain at the Naval Academy to meet George Washington, while the men make the long trek to Lancaster, PA to take on the Franklin & Marshall Diplomats. “It’s going to be a bit strange playing the morning matches and then piling into the bus and just sitting there for three hours,” said Delany. “We’re going to need to shake off the rust.” All in all, tomorrow should serve mostly to hone the Red’s skills for the upcoming postseason tournaments. The teams scheduled are not nearly at the caliber that Cornell is used to facing. “This is GW’s first year fielding a women’s team, so we’re obviously looking for good results,” said Perschetz. “We hope to end the regular season on a positive note and ride those victories into Nationals.”Archived article by Per Ostman
