An open discussion on racial issues, led by four nationally renowned authors, was held at “In Roads, All Roads: A Chicanafest” last Saturday in Goldwin Smith Hall.

The event included presentations from the writers and a roundtable discussion. The day began with a brief introduction of background information by each of the writers, who included Lucha Corpi, a contemporary Chicana mystery writer and poet; Montserrat Fontes, an internationally recognized lecturer; Maria Herrera-Sobek, the Luis Leal Professor of Chicana Studies and acting vice chancellor at the University of California–Santa Barbara; and Cornell’s own Prof. Helena Maria Viramontes, English.

Each of these women described how their racial roots have influenced their writing styles.
