Cornell Sports Guy Returns to Cynicism

So there I am, minding my own business in the press box at Lynah Rink when one of our writers comes over to me.

“Jenga,” he said, “you’re a bleeding heart bastard.”

He then lamented the fact that I write about little kids, cancer patients and overachievers like sophomore Greg King. This writer pined for the good old days of snide comments, sarcastic columns, and ironic remarks.

“You really care about people,” he observed.

“Yup,” I told him, taking his words as a backhanded compliment.

But the more I thought about it I realized something — his words stung (though albeit, not as much as my editor’s, who once told me I dressed like the grandfather from the Wurthers Original Commercials). Sometimes the world just isn’t fair, the Man really is trying to put you down, and the only thing that can help is a good hearty laugh. You’re right, Scott Jones, I do need to write a cynical column. Consider this one just for you
