County Legislature Approves 2007 Budget
The Tompkins County Legislature approved the 2007 budget, which includes a 2.6 percent tax rate increase. The $71.2 million budget, up from $65.8 million, is increased partially due to two amendments approved last Tuesday by the Legislature. The two amendments include funding for the Occupational Health and Safety Program, in place to prevent workplace accidents and injuries, and increasing staffing in the county’s Finance Department. The Legislature also voted to extend a one percent local sales tax rate in Tompkins County.
