Grad Student Whelan Dies Unexpectedly Over Weekend

Kenneth Whelan grad, a Ph.D. student in the Department of Policy Analysis and Management, died unexpectedly over the weekend, the University announced Monday. In a message of condolence, President David Skorton described Whelan as “a beloved student, husband, father and son.” Whelan was married and had two young children. In January, Whelan collaborated with researchers to create a working paper about retirement incentive programs available to university employees for the Cornell Higher Education Research Institute.Whelan’s death — the cause of which was not released — marks the second graduate student death in the last month. Robert Ifeanyi Mozia grad died on Oct. 22 of natural causes.
