With the 2016-17 men’s basketball season fast approaching, it is a good time to look back on the team’s 2015-16 season. Last year, Cornell went 10-18 including 3-11 in Ivy League, tied for last in the conference. This season — the first with Brian Earl at the helm — kicks off on Nov. 11 against Binghamton.
Beyond racking up records, Pannell and Seibald have worked tirelessly to grow the game of lacrosse. Through camps and clinics across the nation, the two have made increasing lacrosse’s popularity one of their primary goals.
With three Ivy League games remaining for each Ancient Eight school, Penn and Harvard remain in the driver’s seat in the race for the conference crown.
The team’s 3-0 start — once the talk of campus — now seems like a distant memory. After four straight losses, this one by far the most embarrassing, the Red now sits at 3-4 with three games left in the season.
Featuring two overtime games, this past weekend was one of the most exciting weeks of Ivy League football in 2016.
“It hurts right now,” Archer said, “but tomorrow when the sun comes up it’ll be time to move on keep pressing this thing forward.”
If Cornell can do these three things, the men of the football team may be able to end the losing streak and continue their hope of being crowned Ivy League champions.
Following last year’s last place finish in the Ivy League, Cornell men’s basketball team was ranked seventh in the league in the conference’s annual preseason poll that was announced on Wednesday afternoon.
Before Saturday’s loss to Holy Cross, the last time Harvard lost a non-conference game was in 2011, also against the Crusaders. The Crimson won 16 straight out-of-league games before falling to Holy Cross over the weekend, becoming the last Ivy League team to lose a game this season. Aside from Harvard, Cornell, Columbia, Yale and Brown also lost over the weekend, while Dartmouth and Princeton picked up victories.
Cornell’s defense prides itself on taking the ball away. On Saturday, it was successful at doing that, but the defensive’s risks also proved to backfire at times, giving up a handful of damaging big plays.
