Winning 27 of its last 28 games, the Crimson defeated Cornell, 29-13, halting the Red’s winning streak at three. Harvard now stands as the only undefeated team in the league.
Few picked Cornell to upend Colgate last weekend, but the Red was able to do it, stunning the Raiders with a 23-point comeback. In order to stage a similar upset this weekend against a heavily-favored Crimson squad, Cornell will have to do three things.
In satirical publications, acerbic Sun op-eds and not-so-quiet jokes around campus, Cornell football was ridiculed repeatedly. Now, after three straight wins, including a stunning victory over Colgate on the road, that has all changed.
After three weeks of regular season play, Cornell and No. 22 Harvard are the last standing undefeated teams in the Ivy League. Saturday’s clash between the two teams assures that only one will continue its bid for an undefeated season. Around the league, Princeton and Dartmouth both have posted two wins, while Penn and Brown have 1-2 records. Columbia and Yale, both winless, are currently bringing up the rear.
Sitting in the locker room, trailing by 19 points against a nationally ranked opponent, the men of Cornell football knew what they had to do: play the best football of their lives to stun No. 25 Colgate at home.

Along with Columbia and Yale, the third co-champion, Penn, remains winless. Princeton and Brown have both posted 1-1 records so far.
During Cornell football’s 2015 1-9 season, turnovers were a major weakness for the team, intercepting just four passes all year. In just two games this year — both of them victories — the defense has already accounted for five.
With a win under their belts and a swagger in their step, the men of Cornell football are ready to take on Yale on Homecoming Saturday.
The Ivy League announced that it is proposing NCAA legislation that would restrict college recruiters and limit the exposure athletic programs have to high school student-athletes. The proposal seeks to give high school students more flexibility during the collegiate-level recruiting process.
For the first time since 2013, the Ivy League finished with an opening weekend record above .500. In addition to Cornell’s victory over Bucknell, Harvard, Brown, Princeton and Dartmouth all were victorious.
