Reunited and It Feels So Good

NYC’s Ike Yard plays for Fanclub first time in 25 years

I will openly admit that I have never been much of one for electronica. But the Fanclub Facebook flyer (try saying that 10 times fast!) for Friday’s show said “danceable,” so I was pumped in any case. What I got was a darkly danceable, damn good show.

Essex Green’s Ithaca Gig

Brooklyn Trio treks to Appel with RaRaRiot for Fanclub Collective Show

Saturday night, Cornell’s indie/punk Fanclub Collective delivered once again with yet another show that was indisputably well worth the wait (and it was quite a wait — the show, originally scheduled for nine o’clock at night, didn’t get underway until past ten o’clock). Despite the delay, the faithful Fanclub-goers were ready to rock and when the first act, the eagerly anticipated, 6-piece, indie/rock group RaRaRiot, finally stepped on stage, the energy in Appel was palpable (even more so than on taco night — who could believe it?).

An Amped-Up Event

Daze dances to Fanclub's latest

Thursday night, a long line of spectators queued up in Appel Commons, eagerly awaiting the most recent show put on by Cornell’s Fanclub Collective, an indie/punk organization whose past shows have included bands such as the Arcade Fire, We Are Scientists and Broken Social Scene. The anticipation of those waiting in line was obvious and with good reason — it is clear that there must be artistic virtue to any show where green yarn (as opposed to the standard sprawling black ‘X’ drawn callously on your hand) is tied around your wrist at the gate.

Ethereal and Enchanting

Daze gets spiritual with Philipino sensation Grace Nono

“Dosayan, dosayan, your name is my protection. Give us peace and unity here on Earth. Bless us with rain to heal and appease;” certainly a prayer and a hope for the ages. Award-winning Filipino traditional singer and cultural preservationist Grace Nono delivered this and more Friday night during her performance at Barnes Hall. The above-mentioned song goes on to ask for cooperation between people and happiness for all — the singer asks for fruit from the trees that God created and humans watch over.
