Field Hockey Falls Twice in Overtime

It was a heartbreaking weekend for the field hockey team as it was on the losing end of two overtime games against Ivy rival Penn and Rutgers, 3-2, and 1-0, respectively.
“I think we played really well,” said senior co-captain Katie Bradshaw. “Unfortunately we lost in both overtimes, but we’re a resilient team and we’re not going to let those two loses hold us back.”
The Red started off its weekend by traveling to Philadelphia and suffering its first loss off the season by a 3-2 margin. Penn came into the game with a 1-4 record while the Red was riding a 3-0 start. However, the Quakers were able to force overtime late in the game and win on a penalty shot.

Early Victories Give Field Hockey Startup Momentum

Along with the anticipation of the new Kanye West and 50 Cent albums next week, Cornell students have something else to look forward to; field hockey.
After winning its first two matches of the season, the Red now has plenty of momentum as they go into important matches against Columbia and Penn in the next couple of weeks.
Over the weekend, the Red defeated Lehigh, 2-1, and then traveled to Lafayette and beat them, 2-0.
“That really gives us a lot of confidence,” said junior co-captain Belen Martinez. “We want to keep winning and playing as hard as we can.”

Field Hockey Set to Play Lehigh, Lafayette on Road

With the first full week of classes under way, the field hockey team will get its season started with a two-game road trip against Patriot League foes Lehigh and Lafayette.
The Red started off last season with victories, 3-1 and 2-0 respectively, over the two squads, and hope to repeat the fast start in 2007.
Historically the Red has done very well against Lehigh, amassing a 14-1-1 record. However, the Red has not been as successful in the past against Lafayette finishing 4-12-2 in all past matches.

Field Hockey Looks to Earn Ivy Title This Season

After a strong second place showing in the Ivies last year, the field hockey team has become more experienced with hopes to turn that second place finish into an Ivy crown.
“We want to win the Ivy League,” said junior co-captain Belen Martinez. “But we’re going to take it one game at a time.”
The Red can aspire to higher expectations this season since last year’s squad has been supplemented by the new additions of a strong incoming freshman class as well as new assistant coach Mary McCracken.

Gymnastics Earns Fourth

This weekend the gymnastics team hosted the ECAC championships and finished fourth with a team score of 190.100.

Although defending champion Towson reclaimed its title with a team score of 193.650, the Red placed three players in the top-7 of the beam competition — including the individual champion, sophomore Stacey O’Hara.

Gymnastics Outperforms Owls

Things just keep getting better for the gymnastics team as they recorded a season-high 191.750 in an outstanding victory over ECAC rival Temple this weekend.

“Our scores just keep getting better,” said senior Christina Baez. “This is the first match where we really did our best in all four competitions.”

Multiple men and women to represent Red

After winning the B division at Nationals and completing the last team match of the season on a high note, the men’s and women’s squash teams will face another challenge this weekend at the NISRA Individual championships.

Gymnastics Heads to Rutgers for Dual Meet

This weekend, the gymnastics team will travel to compete against Rutgers try to continue its strong performance during the year. Recently, the Red has recorded three straight runner-up finishes and has continued to improve all season. Last week, the Red had its highest score of the year with a 190.600 at the Ivy Classic, but it lost to Penn, one of its ECAC rivals.

Gymnastics Earns Second Place

This weekend the gymnastics team finished second at the Ivy Classic with an impressive score of 190.600.

One of the team’s goals was to break 190 before the end of the season. The Red was able to accomplish that this weekend, but fell just short to Penn, the host team and one of the Red’s ECAC rivals.
