Spanish sprinter Bruno Hortelano-Roig ’14 has been hospitalized after he was in an alcohol-related car crash just outside of Madrid early Monday morning, suffering a “catastrophic hand injury” to his right hand.
After shocking the sprinting world by finishing second overall in the 200-meter dash heats, Bruno Hortelano-Roig ’14 missed out on competing for gold by .06 seconds.
Hortelano-Roig won his heat in the 200-meter dash at the 2016 Rio Olympics with a personal best time of 20.12 seconds, fast enough for second overall in the 10 total heats.
Six athletes, representing four different countries and ranging in ages from 22 to 30, are set to participate in the Olympic games later this summer. Their one commonality? A Cornell education.
