As the pandemic exacerbates food insecurity, Tompkins County residents have ramped up their efforts to provide each other with groceries and meals.
The Learning Services Center, Career Services and IT@Cornell are all serving students online.
From community Facebook groups to local charities, Ithacans provide meals and other necessities for those economically impacted by the pandemic.
Ithaca’s service organizations came together to help fight food insecurity resulting from food shortages and unemployment in the wake of coronavirus.
While COVID-19 poses unique challenges to all of Ithaca, St. John’s Community Services and the Tompkins Department of Social Services remain committed to helping the city’s homeless population.
Located at 109 McGraw Place, the pantry offers its services to all undergraduate students, graduate students, staff members and faculty, regardless of financial status. Members of the Cornell community simply need to enroll in the program to gain access to the pantry’s services.
“The Bread n’ Butter Pantry will not be returning to campus as a student organization,” a Bread n’ Butter Facebook post said on Sept. 5.
Bread N Butter, a food pantry founded and run by a graduate student, has been tackling the issue of food insecurity since September by providing free cooked meals to the campus community.
