Sydney Beers posted her title earning and career high — 39.125 all-around score in session II on Friday, making her a national champion days before the individual finals on Sunday. Her USAG title in the all-around is a feat no other Cornellian has ever accomplished.
As a team, the Red performed well. Four gymnasts finished in the top five of their events including Beers, Brady and Webster. The collective effort was strong enough for the team to place sixth out of eight.
Gymnastics posts season-high score but closes the season with a shocking tenth of a point loss to West Chester.
Cornell gymnastics struggles to find its form as it finished last in its last two quad meets.
Freshman Sydney Beers was the all-around runner up, beating out Yale’s Sarah Wilson by 25 thousandths of a point with a 38.675. Beers led the Red on floor with a 9.800 and finished fourth overall in the event.
Gymnastics ends its regular season strong with a victory over Springfield College.
The Red enjoyed solid performances in almost all categories, scoring a 191.600 team total, less than a point behind first place Brockport’s 192.425. Ithaca College took third place with 190.825, and Cortland coasted into fourth with 181.900.
Solid showings from freshmen Kate Michelini and Sydney Beers were not enough for gymnastics in its loss to Penn.
“It was so exciting to win the all-around title,” Beers said. “I was genuinely surprised when my name was called.”
