Tompkins County’s living wage was raised to $18.45 per hour after a 2023 Living Wage Study conducted by the Cornell School of Industrial and Labor Relations.
Students rallied outside a United Auto Workers union vote on Monday, standing with Cornell employee union members who are advocating for livable wages amid staffing shortages in their new contract with the University.
Out of the 971 Black workers over the age of 18 who live in Tompkins County, only 252 make a living wage to support one adult working a full time job.
