Matt Morgan passed Ryan Wittman ’10 for first all-time in career scoring in Cornell men’s basketball history.
Although Cornell has won three consecutive meetings with Lafayette, the Leopards hold the overall lead in the series with an 11-10 record against the Red.
Senior guard Matt Morgan and sophomore forward Jimmy Boeheim led the way offensively for the Red. Morgan notched 34 points and seven rebounds while climbing into 10th place all time for points scored in the Ivy League. Yesterday’s matchup with NJIT marked Morgan’s 56th game straight scoring in double digits and ninth game over the past four years Morgan has scored 30+.
The Raiders methodically and frequently moved the ball to the low post where their big men scored at will. Of Colgate’s total 73 points, 54 came in the paint. By the end of the game, Colgate had outscored the Red by 20 points in the paint.
Red fans should keep a watchful eye on Morgan as he enters his final season in Ithaca. Morgan has spurred the Cornell offense for the past three years with his prolific scoring.
Games against Duquesne, Wyoming and Northeastern have been traded for matchups with UConn on Nov. 20, Wake Forest on Jan. 2, Southern Methodist University on Dec. 22 and Towson on Jan. 9.
The six incoming members of Cornell men’s basketball have been made clear.
“It was great going through the process again but I’m glad to officially be back and getting ready for another run with my team.”
Gettings said he plans to graduate in December before transferring to another college.
Cornell’s standout guard Matt Morgan declared for the 2018 NBA Draft on Monday.
