Physical Game I Sends Red Over Visitors

Although it unveiled a variety of unique cheers designed especially for the visiting Alabama-Huntsville Chargers (5-3, 2-0 CHA), the Lynah Faithful’s refrain was the traditional “Frustrated” chant.

Outclassed by a faster and deeper Cornell (2-0, 0-0, ECAC) squad, the visitors resorted to costly undisciplined penalties. The Red was able to exploit the scrappiness of its opponent, converting on three of the seven resulting power play opportunities en route to a decisive 6-1 victory.

Both teams started the contest rather lethargically. For the second straight game, the Red found itself short-handed early as senior defenseman Brian McMeekin was whistled for slashing less than two minutes into the game. The Cornell penalty-kill showcased a convincing effort paced by junior Shane Palahicky and senior David Francis. The unit would remain impenetrable all evening, stymieing all four of the Chargers power play opportunities. The teams exchanged man advantages for the better part of the opening period.
