As recently as Sunday, however, the Red was hoping that the games with Binghamton would serve as a tune-up for an Ivy League championship series against Harvard. That was not the case, due to a 1-3 weekend record against Princeton, which dropped the Red to second place in the Ivy League standings and eliminated the team from title contention.
Despite last weekend’s losses, Cornell still posted a remarkable season. The team won 80 percent of its game and enjoyed a 20-game win streak. In the team’s final two games of the year, it had little trouble dispatching the Bearcats. The Red prevailed by scores of 7-4 and 12-4 in the first and second halves of the doubleheader, respectively.[img_assist|nid=30399|title=Angels in the outfield|desc=Senior center fielder Jenna Campagnolo launched a homer in her final game for Cornell.|link=node|align=left|width=|height=0]
In the first game of the night, senior Jenn Meunier was able to pick up one last win as a Red pitcher. The Red prevailed 7-4 behind a strong effort from their staff ace. Meunier finished the season with a 20-3 record and a 2.17 ERA.
After playing well for the first 12 innings of the series, the Red offense exploded in its final inning of the season. The Red turned a 5-2 lead into a 10 run advantage with a huge sixth inning against the Bearcats. Red pitching would allow two runs in the bottom half of the sixth, but the 12-4 advantage was sufficient to invoke the mercy rule.
Senior Ashley Wolf was exceptional in her final game with the Red. The outfielder launched two home runs, including a two-run shot in the third inning, at a time when the game’s outcome was still very much in question.
Wolf’s classmate and fellow outfielder Jenna Campagnolo also impressed in her final game. She pinch hit with two runners on base in the sixth inning and launched a home run that effectively ended any hope the Bearcats had.
Rookie Elizabeth Dalrymple started on the mound for Cornell and pitched effectively. Sophomore Izzy Pines was 3-3 with three RBI in the game.
