The civil rights activist gave an invigorating lecture on the legacy of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and on her own motivation for scaling a 30-foot flagpole in front of the South Carolina statehouse in 2015 to remove a Confederate flag.
In 2016, two Cornell students founded a library to help out their peers who could not afford to buy textbooks. During the spring and fall semesters of 2018, the library rented out approximately 840 books and 100 iClickers.
Unused meal swipes no longer need to go to waste. Under a new pilot program, students can now donate unused meals on their meal plan to other students in need.
Earlier this week, the Ithaca community celebrated Martin Luther King Jr. Day with week-long celebrations, community meals, workshops and guest speakers. Ithaca College honored King with a commemorative week of events run by the Center for Innovation, Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Social Change. Ithaca College has been celebrating MLK day as a “day on” not “day off” since 2008, according to their website. The idea of the “day on” is a time of reflection and a call to action through programs and activities, rather than simply taking a vacation. Their week of events features a keynote address, workshops, speakers and panels.
