The College of Arts and Sciences will expand its first year advising program to include all newly-enrolled students, it announced on March 29. The program — in which new students meet weekly in small weeks with faculty members to ease the transition into college life — was implemented as a pilot initiative two years ago.
The Milstein Program is halfway through its inaugural year. The program seeks to establish an interdisciplinary approach to research within the College of Arts and Sciences.
“I think it’s been a really long journey for all of us,” founding member of Cornell University Deaf Awareness Project Jackie Rachaf ’14 told The Sun.
“It’s very important that scientists in general engage in the public conversation and we celebrate the people that excel at it,” Lincoln said.
Pepinsky explained that the committee’s new recommendations did make some “compromises” in an effort not to “disproportionately burden” students with heavy course loads.
Ithaca Coalition for Unity and Cooperation in the Middle East hosted their third Building Unity: Cleaning the Hate at Wood Street Park.
Jayawardhana said he is “delighted” to become a part of the “vibrant community of scholars” at the University.
Arts college faculty decided to not vote on a proposal to keep the college’s language requirement the same, putting off a decision on the requirement to an undetermined date.
Bean mentioned the “pressure with focusing on professional pathways,” the struggle to show the desirability of a liberal arts degree, the increasing need for internship experience and the uniqueness of serving both the liberal arts college and the surrounding pre-professional schools.
I believe deeply in the value of these programs. As research enterprises and educational units, these programs greatly enrich the College of Arts & Sciences. In the context of the curriculum review we are currently endeavoring in the college, our faculty have affirmed the value of such considerations with the proposal to add a “human difference” category to the breadth requirements. If we are to prepare our students to be good global citizens and navigate an increasingly heterogeneous world, then we must prepare them to understand how social categories are created, and the implications that this has for our society more broadly.
