Samuel King beats pool of 120 to win medalist honors, leading men’s golf to sixth place finish.
Even with consistent and solid play, the Red could not secure the all-elusive tournament victory in the fall portion of the season.
“We didn’t get the win, but we proved to ourselves the level of golf we should be playing in the future,” said junior Benjamin Choe.
Cornell finished last in the Macdonald Cup on Sunday, placing 14th out of 14 teams, golfing 61 strokes over par, collectively. The Red, a traditionally competitive golf team, was affected by a difficult course and abnormal wind that compounded into its first last place finish of the season.
Several golfers, led by senior Noah Schwartz, had career-best days en route to a fourth-out-of-twelve team finish.
Cornell’s Golf team finished 6th out of 15 in the Alex Lagowitz Memorial Invitational on Sunday, with an aggregate score of 888 over 54 holes to finish six-over-par.
“I feel very confident about this season,” said junior Ben Choe. “Our roster is one of the deepest we’ve ever had. Everyone is capable of going low, which is huge to have over the course of a long season. Also, we took a very strong freshman class, who are already showing great signs of potential.”
The Red finished tied for seventh out of nine this past Monday and Tuesday in the Hampton Intercollegiate, held at Maidstone Golf Club in East Hampton, New York, scoring a combined total of 943, or 79-over par and good for a tie with Ivy League foe Penn.
