With its pair of wins at home, Cornell jumped up in the Ivy League standings and is tied with Brown in fourth at 5-5.
After losing a couple of Ivy league games last weekend, Cornell is looking to climb out of fifth place in the Ivy League with the Inaugural Ivy League tournament approaching.
“Everyone was very upset after the two losses this weekend, but we’re hoping that feeling fuels us to get wins against Harvard and Dartmouth this weekend.”
“Every game is competitive, which is what makes the Ivy League such a unique conference.”
The Red would have been eliminated from Ivy League Tournament contention had it not won a game over the weekend. The resilient women’s squad defeated Yale, 76-63.
“I think our class really brings a certain energy that is very contagious both on and off the court.”
After cutting into the Big Green’s 18-point lead, Cornell could not pull off the comeback victory despite late game efforts.
“I think every win makes us hungrier to get another win,” said senior guard Megan LeDuc.
Following the short Thanksgiving hiatus, Cornell women’s basketball returned to action this past weekend, splitting two games to Pitt and Saint Francis with a loss and win, respectively.
Projected to record its highest finish in the Ivy League since 2008, the Cornell women’s basketball team will tip-off its season opener against non-conference opponent New Hampshire this weekend. Head coach Dayna Smith, beginning her 15th season with the Red, recruited the largest freshman class in recent history, in an attempt to channel young energy to a team that is built on strong transitions and running the ball. The team is coming off 14-14 season, finishing fifth in the Ivy League. The team retained a strong contingency its squad, with four of last season’s starters returning this year. Senior Nia Marshall, who led the Ivy League in scoring with 16.6 points per game, is expected to remain a vital component of the Red offense.
