“It seems like a lot of people skip the Monday and Tuesday of Thanksgiving anyways, so if you just [canceled classes] it’d be a lot easier for people who live far away to get flights for a week [rather than five days],” she said.
“Every generation has their fight, and this damn well is ours. No, we cannot change the outcome of this election over night. But we can, and we will, make our voices heard, because let me tell you … our voices are loud.”
“Every single one of you today is here because of your hope and your love which is your fuel,” she said. “So please, in your hearts, remember the love that you’re feeling and the desire for unity and the desire for peace and know that you have a place.”
The Women’s Resource Center Executive Board, which wrote a letter to the editor in The Sun last week endorsing Hillary Clinton and condemning Donald Trump, said the board felt duty-bound to speak out after enduring months of Trump’s rhetoric.
The biggest water consumers on campus are the Central Energy Plant, the Cornell Heights assisted living facility and the Wilson Synchrotron Laboratory — home to the particle physics accelerator, during its operational hours — according to Chris Bordlemay, Cornell’s water and wastewater manager.
“The race remains competitive,” he said. “But after Monday night, I’m increasingly confident that we’re headed for a Clinton victory in November.”
A resolution — sponsored by Akhilesh Issur ’17, International Student Liaison at Large — asked the department to reconsider its CPT policy and to publicize their stance on the issue, in order to alert international applicants.
“Affirmative action looks at whether students have faced racial or ethnic adversity — this is one aspect of a holistic admissions process,” the statement said. “Other aspects of holistic admissions processes include looking at whether students are first-generation or have endured poverty.”
The complaint, filed within the Office of Civil Rights, claims that Hubert Zhao — the son of AACE president YuKong Zhao — was unjustly denied admission to both schools last year.
Although many students were excited about starting their four years at Cornell, some expressed frustration at the conditions of their dorms.
