Women’s Swimming Ends Season With Strong Individual Results

The women’s swimming and diving team ended their season at the Ivy League Championship meet this past weekend against their Ancient Eight foes. The Red finished last amongst the competition. Harvard won the season-ending meet with a score of 1583.5.
The Red had some solid performances throughout the three-day meet, performing far better than it had in past years. Primarily due to a strong freshman class, which was able to provide some knockout performances under pressure, the Red was able to overcome a lack of experience in the pool.
“When you looked at the leader board at the end of the night you saw a lot of freshman and sophomores standing up there, and that’s really the future of this team,” said senior Mary Cirella.

Men’s Lacrosse: Cornell 9, Army 8

The men’s lacrosse team walked away from its second game of the season with a tight win against Army. The game winner was a cooperative effort between All-Americans Michael Seibold and John Glynn who combined for the goal that put No. 4/6 Cornell over the top. Siebold scored on a low, hard shot on the army goal from 15 yards out, from an assist by Glynn. The team is now 2-0, continuing its step towards the top.

Men’s, Women’s Tennis Travels To Syracuse, S. Carolina, Georgia

The women’s tennis team will head north to Syracuse to face the Orangemen this Friday. The team has been riding a three-game skid, but Syracuse will be a much harder test than any of the teams the Red has faced so far. The men will also be traveling, competing in S.C. and Ga. Syracuse opened its 2009 season with six-straight wins, taking its first lost this past week against Iowa. The team beat Buffalo in solid fashion, 5-2, a team that recently took down the Red in a close contest. The Red will need a new sense of game if it intends to inflict damage against Syracuse.[img_assist|nid=35580|title=Across the net|desc=Sophomore Jeremy Feldman gauges an incoming shot during the men’s match against Binghamton on Feb. 11.

Young W. Lacrosse Wins in Opener

The women’s lacrosse team took to the turf for the first time this season against Colgate yesterday. With the brisk night air blowing, there was some question whether the No. 16 Red would emerge tighter than how they left it last season: as the runner up in the Ivy League. The team had lost many of its starters, and some could argue the core of their arsenal, last season after graduating a class of seven seniors leaving only four for the upcoming season. The Red made a strong start, however, pulling out a hard fought victory against Colgate in front of the home crowd, 10-7.
