Cornellians celebrated the Chinese Lunar New Year despite COVID-19-related restrictions, with in-person events making a return.
In its Jan. 27 meeting, the Student Assembly voted on proposals regarding live transcripts for virtual classes and funding for Chinese New Year celebrations and upheld its removal of the former Minority Student Liaison.
Gloria Cao, grad., the organizer of the event, said the lanterns symbolize hope, light and family. She also said that she organized the event to increase cultural awareness among Cornell students and to tear down negative stereotypes of Chinese students.
