Things To Take From Dragonball: Evolution

Things I learned from watching Dragonball: Evolution in the theater:
1. Super Mario Bros. inspired at least one director (James Wong) to attempt to make movies for a living.
2. Chow-Yun Fat (Bulletproof Monk, Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End) is now tied with Nicholas Cage for number of movies made where he’s willing to do ANYTHING for a paycheck.
3. If you have one wish (to be granted by a flying talking dragon, no less), don’t bring back your beloved dead relative that raised you from childhood, but a perverted useless karate teacher played by Chow-Yun Fat doing a terrible impression of Jerry Lewis.
4. Emmy Rossum is really hot.
5. Emmy Rossum can’t pull off being a badass action hero any better than Kristin Kreuk.

Women’s Hockey Ties Dartmouth for Playoff Berth

Playing its last two home games of the season, the women’s hockey team (11-11-5, 7-8-5 ECAC) skated to a disappointing loss against Harvard on Friday, 5-2, before tying Dartmouth, 3-3, on Saturday. The Red showed its offensive prowess in the Dartmouth game, blocking the No. 8 Green from a spot in the playoffs.
On Friday, the Red started off with three power play opportunities against the Crimson (14-4-2, 15-8-3 ECAC). Harvard was able to thwart all of Cornell’s attempts to get on the board early in the game. After a scoreless first period, the Crimson netted the first goal of the night when it capitalized on a rebound in the red zone and put the puck past freshman goalie Amanda Mazzotta.

Robert Morris Hands W. Hockey Its First Season Loss

The women’s ice hockey team battled hard at home this weekend, but failed to come out of Saturday’s Robert Morris matchup with a win, ending the game with a score of 2-1.
Cornell (2-1-0) has started off with a strong record of two exhibition and two regular season wins, and this game was the team’s first loss of the season. In capturing the win, Robert Morris (4-4) notched a .500 record. “We just didn’t play our best and we should have come up on top, but it didn’t really turn out that way,” said junior forward Stephanie Holmes.

Volleyball Travels to Ivy Foes Princeton, Penn

Coming off a disappointing midweek loss to Binghamton on Tuesday, the volleyball team is eager to return to Ancient Eight play and its more familiar, although not less formidable, foes. The Red will hit the road this weekend to take on current Ivy runners-up Princeton at 7 p.m. today followed by a 4 p.m. tilt with Penn tomorrow.

Wherein Rebecca Weiss Stalks Leonardo DiCaprio

There’s a whole laundry list of songs from the late 1990s that I only associate with the movie Titanic. They have zero to do with the film, but the late-90’s techno craze coincided with the time period in which I learned what love truly was (Titanic taught me that). Every night for, like, I’d guesstimate about six months, I’d make sure I was in my room, listening to the radio. (Wow, times have changed — now my radio consumption consists only of Bay Area AM talk radio, and only when I want to set a romantic mood.) Every night at 9 p.m., I listened in for the Z95.7 top 9 at 9. Or was it top 10 at 10?

Adventures in Snacking: 'My Favorite Snack is Butter,' or the Final Column

My last column. Sad to be leaving, happy to be graduating blah blah blah. Writing in The Sun is the best part of going to Cornell; enjoy college while you can, etc., etc. It’s time to set a Sun shout-out record. These are the people that have snacked with me through the years. These are their favorite snacks. Why is the column called Adventures in Snacking? Because eating by yourself is lonely and snacking with friends is the tastiest treat of all. If I forget you in this column and you really deserved to be in it, you can touch my face. It’s my biggest pet peeve and it will really piss me off.

10 Questions With Brittany Forgues

[img_assist|nid=28344|title=|desc=|link=node|align=center|width=569|height=210]
Before the women’s hockey team battles No. 1-ranked Harvard in the ECAC Hockey quarterfinals this weekend, senior co-captain Brittany Forgues joined Sun Assistant Sports Editor Lance Williams for a leisurely skate around the ice. Williams is still trying to recover from Forgues’ blindside body check.

1. I always start out on a serious note; so the women’s hockey team has made the playoffs for the first time in your career. How does that feel?
It’s great, we’re really excited. It’s obviously different because I’ve never gone to the playoffs, it’s a new feeling for all of the seniors.
What about the team this year has made it so successful?

Despite Two Losses Over Weekend, W. Hockey Makes Playoffs

For the first time in four seasons, women’s ice hockey will be playing in the ECAC playoffs. Despite a pair of losses at Lynah Rink this weekend, losing 5-1 to Dartmouth Friday night and 4-2 to Harvard Saturday afternoon, the Red will take the ice this postseason.
“We are all very excited to be playing in the playoffs,” said junior defenseman Steph Ulrich. “We’re looking forward to it a lot. We really feel like it’s an honor to be able to play in the playoffs. It’s been a long time since our team has been able to do that. We’re proud to represent Cornell women’s ice hockey.”

W. Hockey Defeats In-State Rivals Union, RPI

Cornell snapped a three-game losing streak and climbed the ECAC standings this weekend with a 3-2 win at Union Friday night, followed by a 4-1 victory at Rensselaer Saturday afternoon. The Red’s two conference victories, coupled with Yale’s winless 0-2 weekend, allowed Cornell to leapfrog the Bulldogs in the standings and secure the No. 7 spot in the ECAC heading into the last weekend of the regular season.
The Red (12-13-1, 9-10-1 ECAC Hockey) captured an early 1-0 advantage against last-place Union (3-25-2, 0-18-2) at 7:47 of the first period. Senior Brianne Schmidt netted the rebound after freshman defenseman Amber Moore’s shot from the blueline bounced off of Dutchwomen junior goaltender Lundy Day.

Road Teams Triumph in Home-and-Home Series

On Friday night, the women’s ice hockey squad snapped Colgate’s 10-game consecutive winning streak over the Red with a 3-2 victory at Starr Rink. However, this success against their cross-state rival was short lived as the Raiders responded with a 2-1 victory Saturday afternoon in the second half of their home-and-home series.
