The Ithaca Police Department will terminate an officer directly responsible for handling sex crimes in the department’s investigative division, the Mayor’s office announced in a press release Thursday. An internal IPD investigation found a slew of failures to sufficiently investigate a range of cases in the division over the last 10 years.
Ithaca Police arrested a Cornell student for two events of forcible touching that took place on Oct. 27 in Collegetown, the IPD said in a press release.
Two victims reported that an unknown male had forcibly touched them in a “sexual manner” on Sunday. The Ithaca Police Department is still investigating the incident.
This year marks the third consecutive year that the Ithaca Police Department officers are wearing pink badges in support of October’s Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
Early Friday morning, the Cornell University Police Department responded to a report of an armed robbery near Uris Library on Ho Plaza, where suspects brandished a gun and took the belongings of two Cornell students. The robbery was reported at 2:49 a.m., according to the press release.
Kayakers found the body floating down the waterway.
At 11:12 p.m., the fire was still burning, and smoke could be smelled from Collegetown.
