Men’s, Women’s Tennis Travels To Syracuse, S. Carolina, Georgia

The women’s tennis team will head north to Syracuse to face the Orangemen this Friday. The team has been riding a three-game skid, but Syracuse will be a much harder test than any of the teams the Red has faced so far. The men will also be traveling, competing in S.C. and Ga. Syracuse opened its 2009 season with six-straight wins, taking its first lost this past week against Iowa. The team beat Buffalo in solid fashion, 5-2, a team that recently took down the Red in a close contest. The Red will need a new sense of game if it intends to inflict damage against Syracuse.[img_assist|nid=35580|title=Across the net|desc=Sophomore Jeremy Feldman gauges an incoming shot during the men’s match against Binghamton on Feb. 11.

Red Falls Just Short of Syracuse Upset

Led by an electric performance from junior Ryan Wittman, Cornell put a scare into No. 20 Syracuse at the Carrier Dome last night — going up by as much as 16 points in the first half before eventually falling, 88-78.
Wittman paced the Red with 33 points, while the Red shot 43 percent from the field, including going 13-of-29 shooting from 3-point range. Sophomore standout Johnny Flynn led the Orange with 24 points and six assists on over 50 percent shooting, and former high school teammate Paul Harris was right behind Flynn with 21 points and nine rebounds.

M. Bball Faces Tough Midweek Road Matchup With Syracuse

The men’s basketball team has had its challenges on the road this season, losing contests to Siena, St. John’s and Indiana. The toughest of the season might just come tonight as the Red travels to Syracuse to take on the No. 20 Orange in a game which will be broadcast locally on Time Warner Cable. The Red will enter the central New York showdown unsure if junior point guard Louis Dale will suit up until game time. Dale’s services would help as they face a tough and physical Big East squad led by sophomore point guard Johnny Flynn.

Volleyball Loses Home Opener

The Red came out of the gate firing in its 2008 home opener, but Syracuse responded quickly and efficiently and ultimately bested Cornell, 25-22, 25-18, 25-20.
The first set was the most heavily contested of the match; at times, Cornell (1-6) enjoyed leads of as many as five points, but Syracuse seemed never to fade away. The set started as a quick back-and-forth affair with both teams trading points won on relatively short rallies.

Red Volleyball to Take On Syracuse in Home Opener

There’s no place like home. At least that’s what the volleyball team is hoping, as it dusts itself off after a tough 1-5 start to the preseason and focuses on preparing for its first homestand of 2008, beginning with a match against Syracuse tonight. Despite two rough away tournaments, the Red is coming off a solid 3-2 victory against Maine last Saturday, which it hopes will be the catalyst it needs in order to remain in the win column. The Orange (6-8) is also coming off a win, however, after defeating Princeton, last year’s Ivy champ, 3-0 on Saturday.
